Hi everyone!

Hope you enjoyed this lovely long weekend. I am grateful for the energy
you all bring to our community! :)

At our potluck last week I told you about the Rise for Climate, Jobs and
Justice Rally on September 8th at Waterloo Town Square. There were over
250 people who gathered to create climate art, hear speakers and show
their concern about climate change and demand a just transition to a
clean energy future.

We are looking for opportunities to keep folks in our community engaged
in this movement, and given that everyone all had so so much fun
creating the art (chalking and using water based paint) in advance of
the rally we have decided to create opportunities for 'community art
creation'.

That's where KWPeace comes in.... do you think that we could chalk or
use water based paint to create a mural on the ground in front of City
Hall during our Symposium? We would do a mural that connects Peace and
Climate Justice - so it will fit right in with our keynote talk! Having
people gather, (bring their kids) listen to music and talk while they
chalk (and or paint) is a fun way to build community... and it will help
to promote our event inside City Hall....

We have put together an 8-minute summary video from our own RISE event -
you can watch that here: https://youtu.be/HHqhvtLksKU

There are also a bunch more photos of our event (many showing the
collaborative chalking) on the FB page we created for RISE WR
:https://www.facebook.com/risewaterlooregion/ [1] .

Please let me know if we can use our KW Peace Symposium for our first
"pop-up" climate art intervention to increase social awareness and
action around the Region. I am happy to discuss this further - - Also,
if you agree, then I will follow-up with City Hall and make sure that
this is OK with them :)

Also - this video [2] shows the highlights of all of the global rallies,
including footage, right at the end of the video, from our rally in
Waterloo. :)

P.S. Here is a memorable quote and wisdom from our event:
"We have to make sure we stay bound together, unified, to look at
alternatives to the Kinder Morgan pipeline. $4.5 billion are being spent
on this pipeline - we should put the money into something responsible
and beautiful. Let's do this in a peaceful way." - Chief Myeengun Henry
