This Ramadan, join the Palestinian Youth Movement, Sporas Scattered, Independent Jewish Voices Waterloo Region, and Waterloo for Palestine for an iftar and panel discussion on the rise of anti-Palestinian racism, suppression of Pro-Palestinian voices, the apathy our community leaders have shown, and the work each organization has been doing in the community. We will never give up and refuse to have our voices silenced.
We welcome Ramadan this year with heavy hearts, constant du'a (supplication) to ease the struggle of our people, and to strengthen our ever-valiant resistance. Our community has been collectively mourning more than 5 months and we want to have your thoughts and voices heard.
The event will include a panel with community organizers and a Q&A -- questions, thoughts, and feedback from the community are the main focus of this event, please feel free to voice your thoughts and ask your questions in this space!
There will be a designated space for Maghreb prayers. Please bring your prayer mat with you.
Let us know you're coming by filling out the registration form - we can't wait to see you!
Ramadan Mubarak. For your families and ours, and for all our people, we pray for strength, steadfastness, and liberation from the river to the sea. ☪️🇵🇸

Book Launch: “Canada's Long Fight Against Democracy”
Wednesday, March 27
7:00-8:30 p.m.
Speaker: Yves Engler
Location in-person:
Arts Building, C wing, Room 2C3
Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo Campus:
(corner of University Ave. & Albert St.)
Online by Zoom: https://tinyurl.com/7f8p5b6z
Yves Engler will discuss his new book, Canada's Long Fight Against Democracy. It is an important overview of Canadian-backed coups since 1950 from Mohammad Mossadegh in Iran to Patrice Lumumba in Congo, Salvador Allende in Chile and Jean Bertrand Aristide in Haiti. While Canadian officials and the mainstream media regularly frame conflicts with geopolitical competitors as motivated by a belief in “democracy,” Yves debunks the notion and reveals the corporate and military interests that drive Canadian foreign policy.
BIO: Yves is a well-known author, analyst and fellow with the Canadian Foreign Policy Institute. He’s been dubbed “Canada’s version of Noam Chomsky” (Georgia Straight). Yves has published twelve books including “Black Book of Canadian Foreign Policy”, “Building Apartheid: Canada and Israel”, and “Stand on Guard for Whom? A People’s History of the Canadian Military”. His latest book is “Canada's Long Fight Against Democracy” co-authored with Owen Schalk. Yves also hosts the weekly podcast “The Canadian Foreign Policy Hour” (yvesengler.com<http://yvesengler.com>).
This free, public event will be moderated by Tamara Lorincz, PhD candidate in Global Governance at the Balsillie School of International Affairs at Wilfrid Laurier University and a fellow with the Canadian Foreign Policy Institute.
