*This is short notice, but I wanted to let you know that this Thursday, April 28 & Friday, April 29 is the "Women, Climate & Insecurity" conference put on by Sheffield University & Birmingham University etc. The program is here: https://www.shu.ac.uk/helena-kennedy-centre-international-justice/events/women-climate-insecurity-conference

I will be speaking about my visits to Cold Lake air force base, fighter jets, fossil fuel, First Nations, climate crisis etc. if you are interested in tuning in.

*On Thursday at 1:30-2:45 PM ET, panel "Extractivism, Militarization and Gender" moderated by Vanessa Farr. Panelists:

I also wanted to let you know about these resources that I wrote/created for WILPF Canada on militarism, military emissions, fighter jets and climate change.

Finally, I wanted to let you know that SIPRI "Trends in World Military Expenditures" for 2021 has come out. Global military spending is now over $2 trillion. Canada is ranked 13th highest in the world at $26.4 billion USD = $30 billion CAD. In our just announced federal budget, the Trudeau government is going to increase military spending by another $8 billion, plus buy fighter jets $19 billion etc: https://budget.gc.ca/2022/report-rapport/toc-tdm-en.html

Military spending is going up even more during this crucial period that we need to decarbonize.

On Earth Day, Canada sent heavy weapons to Ukraine prolonging the war and suffering: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/ukraine-m777-howitzer-russia-heavy-artillery-1.6427762 instead of calling for a ceasefire and a political resolution.

Finally, I will be in Montreal so can't make the May Day rally in KW.
