Hello everyone,
Last week, I sent out a notification about an online event that was
happening on August 26th. The International Coalition for Human Rights in
the Philippines - Canada (ICHRP-Canada) launched its new campaign to free
all political prisoners in the Philippines. The event was a webinar
featuring speakers from several organizations based in the Philippines,
including Karapatan, a human rights alliance; Kapatid, an organization of
family members of political prisoners; and NNARA-Youth, an organization of
youth who advocate for land reform and the rights of peasant farmers.
If you're interested in watching the webinar, you can view it on the
ICHRP-Canada Facebook page, or on the ICHRP-Canada YouTube channel:

My organization, Canada-Philippines Solidarity Organization -
Kitchener-Waterloo (CPSO-KW), will be supporting the national campaign
locally by doing educational work and raising political and financial
support for political prisoners. If you're interested in learning more
about the campaign, or about what we'll be working on locally, feel free to
send us an email!
An important part of the campaign is making direct connections between
Canadians and political prisoners in the Philippines, and one way we hope
to accomplish this is by involving Canadian organizations in the campaign.
One of the first things we'll be working on is matching up Canadian
organizations with a prisoner based in the same sector (labour, education,
media, etc.), and having them "adopt" the prisoner. This could mean
education work among your members about the prisoner, statement-writing
about them, or raising of material support for them. If your organization
might be interested in getting involved, we'd be happy to chat. Please
reach out!
In solidarity,
Ryan Greenlaw
