such a great opportunity!

treats provided by Chartwell Retirement Residences each week._
_The climate crisis is one of the most pressing threats of our time and
it will define the lives of the next generations. This talk explores the
emergency and what the global community must do to bring down greenhouse
gas emissions, dramatically and immediately. But it also describes the
development of exciting new social movements and actions from
governments and other key actors in our world that light a pathway
toward a climate-safe future. We will end by discussing how the crisis
and its solutions are manifesting themselves here in Waterloo Region --
and what citizens can do to get involved in the movement for change._
_Dr. Angela V. Carter is an associate professor of political science at
the University of Waterloo and a fellow at the Balsillie School of
International Affairs. Her research has focused on environmental policy
and politics surrounding oil extraction in Canada's major oil-producing
provinces (Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Newfoundland & Labrador). She has
analyzed how environmental policy is developed and contested,
emphasizing tensions between environmental/community impacts and
economic imperatives. Carter is now extending this work in an
international comparative project on supply-side climate policy, focused
on political conditions necessary to wind down fossil fuel extraction in
developed-world states. She is particularly intrigued by the rise of
"keep it in the ground" movements and legislation._
