[KWPeace-groups] You can put your event on the KWPeace calendar!

> Can you please give me some guidance on how to [add an event to the KWPeace calendar]?

Sure! It's not intuitive -- nobody is born knowing how to use computers.

1) Log into KWPeace at https://kwpeace.ca/wp-admin using your e-mail
address. If your e-mail address isn't recognized, register at
https://kwpeace.ca/wp-login.php?action=register

2) Look at the menu on the left. If you don't see "Events" with a
thumbtack icon in the menu let me know, and I'll bump up your access.
(We don't want the spammers to post events!)

3) Select "Events, Add New" from the left menu.

4) Put in the title of the event, and fill in the blanks for "Event Date
and Time", "Event Location Details", "Event Cost and Tickets", and
"Organizer Contact Info". You can give as much or as little contact info
as you want (not everyone wants their phone number published, for
example). Under "Event Location Details" don't click "Show Maps" --
Google no longer allows embedded maps.

5) On the right side of the page select one or two categories: "Peace"
and "Justice", or "Environment", or "Music, Art, Drama". Try to limit to
two categories.

6) Below categories put the name of your organization in "Tags". If
several organizations are sponsoring the event, add them all.

7) Write the description of your event in the main input box in the
middle of the page. Feel free to "Add Media" for pictures, posters, &c.
Avoid putting in just an image of a poster. In an image the words won't
be indexed by search engines, and people using assistive devices (ie.
braillers or text-to-speech) won't be able to read it. So if you put in
a poster, be sure to type the words in the main input box.

8) Click the "Preview" button. A new tab will open in your browser. Does
it look OK? If not, go back to the Add Event tab and fix things up.
Don't worry about the date in Preview, it always shows today, not the
date of the event. It'll be OK when you publish.

9) Publish! A Tweet will be sent out automatically, check
https://twitter.com/kwpeace

If you want to post an article rather than an event use the menu item
"Posts, Add New" in step 3). It won't have the event attributes (date,
location) in step 4), and when you publish it'll be visible in
https://kwpeace.ca/posts/ This is also useful if you're posting a long
list of events, and don't have the time to enter each of them
individually. Posts don't show in the calendar, but better to have them
as a post than not at all.

If you have problems, send a message to info at kwpeace.ca -- that'll go to
the kind volunteers who help to maintain the website: Mo Markham, Alan
Angold, and me.

Is there interest in a quick demonstration of putting an event on the
calendar at the upcoming Spring 2020 Potluck Dinner Meeting?

Thanx for getting me to finally write some instructions for this!
