REBEL DANCE PARTY: FENDING OFF THE EXTINCTION (INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION)
Monday, April 15
5:30-6:30 pm
Waterloo Town Square
75 to 115 King Street South, Waterloo
Come dance with us! It's a great way to find out more about XR KW. We are part of a global movement that aims to wake our societies up to the unprecedented, existential threat we face, to create a groundswell of support for emergency climate mobilization, and to initiate the mobilization as fast as possible.
We aim to place this question into the front of the minds of people across the world: Why are we allowing our rulers to send us to an early grave? Do we want to live or not? If we do not respond, do we deserve to live?
We think we do... and we want to make some noise and have some fun to prove it! Bring signs and drums and join us for some dancing in the streets (or very close to the streets).

RALLY FOR DEMOCRACY AT JUSTIN TRUDEAU'S TOWN HALL
Tuesday, 16 April 2019 at 5:30pm
WHERE: St. Benedict's Catholic Secondary School
LOCATION: 50 Saginaw Parkway, Cambridge
WHY: Because it is 2019 and we still don't have a fair electoral system.
This Tuesday evening, Justin Trudeau will be hosting a town hall at St. Benedict's Catholic Secondary School in Cambridge. Join us to remind the Prime Minister that there are consequences for breaking a promise about democracy. We will rally outside St. Benedict's at 50 Saginaw Parkway at 5:30pm this Tuesday to let Mr. Trudeau know that Canadians are disappointed that he didn't keep his commitment to improve our electoral system. Bring signs, whistles, drums, horns etc. to make a loud point that this is an election year and we haven't forgotten his broken promise from 2015 to make every vote count.

WISE Public Lecture: Utility of the Future - Perspective from a Local Distribution Company
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 24, 2019 - 1:00 PM TO 2:00 PM EDT
The Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy is pleased to host Umar Waqas, Director of Engineering Servies for Energy+ Inc. on April 24.

His presentation,"Utility of the Future - Perspective from a Local Distribution Company" is open for all to attend. The electricity sector is expected to undergo an unprecedented amount of change which has implications for utility shareholders, private markets, and end customers. This change is driven through technological improvements, cost reductions in alternative sources, and changing consumer preferences. The perspective from a Local Distribution Company looks at the opportunities this presents for shifting the conventional poles/wires business to a service organization that empowers customers to part-take in the sector and become involved in making sustainable decisions. The uncertainties that come with change are discussed to provide the audience an appreciation of the technical and regulatory challenges that impact decision making.

One part documentary and another part musical activism, Spin is inspired in part by the incredible true tale of Annie Londonderry, the first woman to ride around the world on a bicycle in 1895. parry spins a fascinating web of stories that travel from 19th-century women's emancipation to 21st-century consumer culture, peeling back layers of history to reveal a surprising and contemporary heart to her theme of liberation. A vintage bicycle, hooked up to simple electronics and suspended in a mechanic's stand, is played - from fenders to spokes to vinyl seat, from whirling pedals to bells - by percussionist Brad Hart, providing a captivating sonic accompaniment to parry's songs and monologues. Staged by award-winning director Ruth Madoc-Jones, with stunning visual projections by acclaimed designer Beth Kates, this unique show has delighted audiences across the continent.

CANADA OUT OF NATO
No to the Military Alliance; Yes to Peace and Disarmament!
Thursday, April 25
12:00-1:00 pm
60 Harbour St., Toronto
(corner with Bay St. near the Queen's Quay Ferry Docks Terminal)
Every month this year, the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW) will be holding a peace vigil outside the NATO Association of Canada headquarters in downtown Toronto corner of Harbour St and Bay St. This year is the 70th anniversary of this male-dominated military alliance and Cold War relic that threatens our security. NATO has been involved in illegal interventions in Serbia and Afghanistan and destabilizing operations in Libya, Ukraine, Latvia and Poland etc... NATO members are the world's largest weapons manufacturers and arms companies like Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics fund the NATO Association of Canada. NATO puts intense pressure on Canada every year to increase military spending, which diverts public funding away from urgent social and environmental needs. NATO relies on a dangerous nuclear arsenal and refuses to disarm. VOW is calling for the Canadian government to withdraw from NATO and work through the United Nations on disarmament and the Sustainable Development Goals that will bring genuine human security. No to NATO; yes to peace, nonviolence and sustainability!
Organized by the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW)
