Hello KW peace!

I have my second (and last) PhD exam on Oct. 9 so I sadly don't think I can come to the meeting this Thursday.

I wish I could come to tell you about the fantastic World Beyond War conference that took place in Toronto last weekend. It was great to see Dwyer there - I'm sure he'll share highlights with you. I took some photos from the conference, the march and the VOW brunch and AGM: https://www.flickr.com/photos/tlorincz/albums I also posted photos from "Rise for Climate" early in September.

I am trying to think of a catchy title for my talk on October 27th. I'd like to talk about Canada's new defence and foreign policies and the environmental and social impacts (climate, military spending etc...). If you have any good suggestions, please let me know. Ideas:

"The Environmental and Social Impacts of Canada's New Foreign and Defence Policies"
"A Critical Examination of Canada's New Foreign and Defence Policies"
"Armed & Dangerous: A Critical Examination of Canada's New Foreign and Defence Policies"
"A Dangerous Direction: A Critical Perspective on Canada's New Foreign and Defence Policies"
"No peace, No justice: Canada's New Foreign and Defence Policies"
"The Climate and Environmental Impacts of Canadian militarism"
"What happened to peace and human rights? Canada's New Foreign and Defence Policies"
"The Current State of Canadian Militarism and War-Making"
"War is Not Green: The Climate and Environmental Impacts of Canada's New Foreign and Defence Policies"

Other ideas? I am open to any good, catchy title.

A few upcoming events to bring to your attention:

*Dr. Paul Rogers, renowned peace researcher from the University of Bradford, will be speaking on peace on Wednesday, November 7 at 4pm at Wilfrid Laurier University and at Conrad Grebel - more details to come.

*Michael Moore's new film "Fahrenheit 11/9" is out now: https://www.cineplex.com/Movie/fahrenheit-119?cmpid=NPCS_Home_Showtimes_ENG

*Upcoming events at the Balsillie School: https://www.balsillieschool.ca/events/

*Indigenous Speaker Series at University of Waterloo on Oct.3: https://uwaterloo.ca/events/events/indigenous-speakers-series-lee-maracle-bill-coleman

If anyone is going to Kingston for the Peace Quest gathering, I would love to catch a ride with you there and would be happy to contribute to gas: http://peacequest.ca/event/gathering/

Finally, I'm going to the women's march on the Pentagon in Washington DC on Oct 20 & 21 if anyone would like to join me: https://www.marchonpentagon.com/

Have a good week and a good meeting! Sorry I can't make it but I will come to the next one...

Thanks,

Tamara
