[KWPeace-groups] Day of Action For Electoral Reform — 11 February 2017 at 1:00pm at Kitchener City Hall

Hi Everyone: You may already have heard about the rally taking place at
Kitchener City Hall on Saturday.

The rally is to protest Justin Trudeau's broken promise of Electoral
Reform -- the latest in a long string of broken promises. But what makes
the Electoral Reform broken promise so much more significant is that so
many other policies and issues depend on it.

Many of us, maybe most of us, maybe all of us belong to groups that are
trying to influence the direction our government takes on important
issues: Arms de-escalation, indigenous rights, environmental issues,
animal welfare, or poverty elimination. Yet in most cases we weren't
able to elect a Member of Parliament that respected our views. And in
the case where we voted for an MP who promised to address our views we
find that those were empty promises, and those promises were broken.

Electoral reform may seem like something esoteric, something that very
few people care about. But it's Electoral Reform that will get our
voices heard, so that we *do* have representation in Parliament, so that
one party that gets only 39% of the vote doesn't get 55% of the seats,
and uses that majority to wield 100% of the power, and uses that power
to ram through legislation to approve pipelines, to build hydroelectric
dams in environmentally sensitive areas, to subsidize big business that
damages our ecosystem, to sell arms to countries violating human rights,
to buy warplanes, and to once again ignore the lack of water for our
native people.


Please come out and join the rally on Saturday. I'll be speaking to
point out the fundamental nature of Electoral Reform, and how it affects
everyone who cares about anything important. There will be an open mic,
so that anyone from our community can speak about their own group, and
how Electoral Reform will get their voices heard.
