Deadline for comments is Aug 31.

WN Hydro is not in imminent danger (see
https://www.waterloochronicle.ca/news-story/7360785-selling-waterloo-north-hydro-off-the-table/
). But I thought it was important to put in a plug for public ownership
anyway.

You can write a comment to letstalk at hydro.ca or go to talkhydro.ca and read
the blurb and take the survey. Note that the survey lists 7 factors, but
public ownership isn't one of them - you have to write it in.

See y'all at the Labour picnic.

Eleanor

Thank You for inviting input on this issue.

I am glad that the councils of Waterloo, Woolwich, and Wellesley decided to
keep public, local ownership and control of WN Hydro.

The government has lost the trust of Ontarians by privatizing a controlling
interest in Hydro One with no mandate from the people.

Therefore we need to keep our LDCs from being merged into Hydro One, or
being amalgamated to be potentially more attractive to private investors.

Once sold, there's nothing to stop them from being sold and resold far out
of Ontarians' control (as happened with Hwy 407). And international trade
and investment deals like TiSA will prevent us from buying them back.

Therefore we cannot even begin to consider other factors such as efficiency
- because we don't know what hidden motives the Ontario government may
have. Very sorry to have to say that.

I need to hear a recommitment to public ownership from Ontario, before I
would consider any change in the status of Waterloo's LDC.
